The quick answer
When your SIM arrives in the post, follow these steps to activate it:
- Log in to the Self Care Portal (within a couple of days of signing up, you should've been sent your account number and instructions on setting up your log in)
- Hover over Mobile, click SIM activations
- Click Activate next to the SIM you're wanting to activate and follow the prompts
- You'll know your transfer is complete when your current SIM card goes into SOS, at which point you can pop your Goodtel SIM in (? Don't pop it in before this point, as we'll send an SMS to your current SIM card to verify you)
The detailed steps
- Log in to the Self Care Portal (within a couple of days of signing up, you should've been sent your account number and instructions on setting up your log in)
- Hover over Mobile, click SIM activations
- Click Activate next to the SIM you're wanting to activate
- On the next page you'll see your sign up details pre-filled, if there are any mistakes here, just update the fields. Then click Next
- Enter your SIM number, which is printed on the physical SIM card that you got in the mail
- On the same page, check that the Mobile Number listed is correct and is free from typos, then click Validate Details
- Now, within 10 minutes you'll receive an SMS to your current SIM card with a six digit code. Pop this code in the portal
- On the next page, if you're happy with the details presented, click Submit Activation, then Yes, Proceed
- You'll know your transfer is complete when your current SIM card goes into SOS, at which point you can pop your Goodtel SIM in
How long will the transfer take?
You can initiate your SIM activation at any time, but generally activations are only processed between 8am-6pm on weekdays, and 10am-6pm on Saturdays, Sydney time.
Your transfer can take up to 4 hours, but usually only takes a few minutes. You won't have any down time during the process - when your current SIM goes into SOS, that's your cue to pop your new, really good, Goodtel SIM in.
